TETB Reviews: Babble-On Begins (Snooch)
Ever since I was younger I have been a huge Kevin Smith fan.
I remember being in middle school watching my first film of his, Dogma, and
loving every minute of it. Jay and Silent Bob we’re definitely my favorite
characters from the flick. Over the years I have looked up to Kevin and still
do a lot, although he does a little less film work and a lot more of other
things like writing or podcasting, getting his voice heard all over the world.
So when I heard his voice had reached a man by the name of Christopher Downie
and that this man wanted to make a web series based off of one of Kevin’s
podcast called Hollywood Babble-On, my mind had been blown to the max.
For those who don’t know Hollywood Babble-On is it’s a
comedy show Kevin Smith does with his K-Rock partner Ralph Garman, the man with
a billion voices or the next Batman as far as I’m concerned. What they do on
this show is talk about Hollywood and what’s going on in it with a funny spin.
If you haven’t checked it out yet then you’re missing you fool!!
Babble-On Begins, the web series that is based off of
Hollywood Babble-On, is about Kevin Smith(Mark Frost) & Ralph Garman(Jack
Fox) both being shun by Hollywood and not being taken seriously. So they decide
to don masks and become the Knights of Babble-On and take down the true
villains of Hollywood. As things heat u
things heat up though, one villain by the name of 8 Ball (Christopher Downie)
decides to take matters into his own hands. This series stars Mark Frost, Jack
Fox, & Christopher Downie, featuring voice over cameos by Kevin Smith
(Clerks, Clerks 2, 4321, Dogma), Ralph Garman (Red State, Sharktopus, Family
Guy), Catherine Reitman(Breakin It Down!), DJ James Franco(Tha Breaks), and
Kyle Hebert(Dragon Ball Z, Detective Conan, Final Fantasy XIII)
This series is one of those fan made films that I would put
up there with SModimations, which is now called SModCo. Cartoon Show, and the
fan made video of Jay and Silent Bob vs Freddy Krueger which I thought were
awesome. The way this flick starts off is pretty cool too. Kevin ends up
meeting is alter ego Slient Bob in a black and white dream which turns into a
nightmare just by Slient Bob asking, “How’d he get so fat”? The men play Kevin
and Ralph I think do a great job acting like these funny men. Mark Frost’s Kevin Smith had to be hard to do
because it’s hard to Kevin’s voice is hard to impersonate his voice. Jack Fox as Ralph was brilliant because he made
Ralph seem pretty smooth but also kind of a dick. Over all as a Kevin Smith fan
I had a good time watching it.
There was thing that I didn’t get about the 2nd
episode of this short series. As I watched the episode it started to do cuts to
8 Ball and a cunty villainess by the name of Man-Handler both fighting Kevin
and Ralph at the same time? Well I didn’t really get it at first and I asked
Chris about it. He said “I decided to edit it like a trailer to break the norm
a little bit, wanted something different”. And different it was sir. It wasn’t a bad choice because not many
filmmakers would do it and I totally understand where he is coming from. As
filmmaker you sometimes get bored doing the normal kind of editing and want to
experiment and see what you can do.
Out of this movie came a music video which based off the
theme song of Babble-On Begins called Babble-On (Theme for Babble-On Begins).
This song is also written and performed by Christopher Downie and was released
for download on iTunes on March 27th, 2012. I for one could not stop
listening to this song and had no idea this guy had the singing chops. It seem
like he is just oozing talent out of him. Along with the web series and song he
started a fan site for all View Askew and SModcast related material made by the
fans, for the fan. I for one can’t wait to see where this site is going to go.
All and all this series, the song, and the creator are all
awesome and I would like to say that if Chris ends up doing a follow up movie
or another SModcast/View Askew related short, film, cartoon, or whatever I would
love to be part of it somehow, maybe just a small part? No? Yes? Do I have to
give up the balloon knot, because I will!! Ha Ha jk.

TETB Review: The Muppets
“It's time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights,
it’s time to meet the Muppets on the Muppet Show tonight”!! And that’s what I as
I watched the new Muppet movie. This movie took me back to being a kid back in
the 90’s watching reruns of The Muppet Show on Nickelodeon and also watching its
much short lived spin off show Muppets Tonight and its long lived spin off show
The Muppet Babies. I remember being so excited when these shows came on; I
would grab a snack, my Kermit watch, and any other Muppet item I had and sit in
front of the television, not knowing that sitting so close to the tv would mess
up my eye site, and just taking in all the comedy goodness. So when I watched
this new Muppet movie I six again.
The Muppets is about three friends who travel to Los Angeles
to see the old Muppet Studios but when they get there they learn the studio is
being sold to an evil greedy oil tycoon, they seek the help of The Muppets themselves
to put on one last show to raise ten million dollars to save the studio. I
thought this was a good idea for a main plot seeing as the show its self has
been off the air for years!! Plus it’s a Muppet movie so you know celebrities
are coming out the wazoo with cameos like Jack Black, Donald Glover, Zach
Galifianakis, Sarah Silverman, Whoopi Goldberg, Selena Gomez, and a lot more.
The main stars, besides The Muppets, are Jason Segel , Amy Adams , Chris Cooper,
and Rashida Jones.
Now there is only one or two things I didn’t like about this
film and both things are pretty small, but where is Rizzo the Rat and how come
we don’t see more of Pepe the King Prawn? I loved those guys growing up and
thought they were the funniest Muppets around so why weren’t they in the movie
more? That was the only thing that really bothered me about this flick.
I really liked the use of CGI used in this movie for the Muppets.
You get to see them do a lot more than just hop around with no leg bottoms to
them. I mean they got to do a lot of different things in this you would never
see them do without the technology. For example, there is a scene where Walter,
the main Muppet of this movie, has a dream that the Muppets ask him to come
join the show. They hop out the tv, CG versions of them, and hop back in asking
him if he want to join them. This had to be one of my favorite moments in the
flick.
Of course it’s not a Muppet movie without musical numbers
and the music in this was awesome. With
big dance numbers, new songs, and old classics this movie had me dancing in my
seat. Like I said earlier this had me thinking I was six again. The one song
that got to me was "Man or Muppet", written by Bret McKenzie of
Flight of the Concords. This not only tugged at my heart but also kind of
brought a tear to my eye. You see in this song you see Gray (Segel) and Walter
deal with being who they are a part, whether they can be men or Muppets.
Over all I give this film a good rating and enjoyable to
watch with you family or friends. I do hope one day they bring more Muppet
movies out or hell even a new tv show. I wouldn’t mind watching The New Muppet
Show every night.

TETB Review: DragonBall Evolution
Dragon Ball is one of the greatest anime shows that are out
there. It has adventure, action, and a boy with a tail!! I used to love this
show when I was younger and I still watch it from time to time. So when I heard
that there was a going to be a Dragon Ball movie I got excited. I followed this
movie as close as I could by seeing who stars in it or even just going by
things I heard. It was a definite win for me when I heard one of my favorite
actors, James Marsters, was playing Piccolo. My doubts started though when I
heard the title of the Dragon Ball flick, called Dragon Ball Evolution.
Evolution… I guess they were trying to be edgy. So the day finally came, I got
my ticket, I got my candy, and my soda… I was ready. What I was not ready for
was the crap fest they decided to put on the screen. My god this movie was
horrible!! I could wipe my ass and come up with something
better than this. I could probably point out everything that’s wrong with this
movie, like the fact that Goku, played by Justin Chatwin, is not a kid and he’s
in high school. Son Goku never had any real education in the show so why put
him in school? I mean they tried to make him into some high school guy with no
real friends at all. They didn’t even give him Krillin has a friend and that’s
his best friend ever. This movie makes
me want to shit myself, take the shit, and light it on fire!!! AHH!!!!

| Look how craptasic it looks. |
Other things I didn’t like about the feature (if you can
call it that) are the fact that we don’t get to see everything that Dragon Ball
offers. For example, I was so ready to see Puar, a soft-spoken blue creature
and the constant companion of Yamcha, but she’s not even there at all. If you
asked this movie’s Yamcha where this cat like creature is then he may be like “UHH
your crazy dude, animals don’t talk”. Well they do in this world buddy!! This
world was supposed to have dinosaurs, talking animals, and just be over the top,
but I guess since its live action they can only go so far before they make it
crap… oh wait they did!! Even “The Great
Oozaru”, or “Great Ape”, looks dumb as hell. He’s supposed to be this big ape
like creature that is bigger than a fucking building!!! All he was in this
flick was hairy and buff with no tail!! Goku didn’t even have a tail in this
movie when everyone who has seen the series knows he was born with a tail.

| Best team ever!!! |
All and all this flick was bad, bad as in shit. They only
reason why I watched it again is because TeamFourStar, that’s right
TeamFourStar, did an iRiff Rifftrax version of the movie. Now if you haven’t
heard of TeamFourStar, these are guys who do an abridged version of Dragon Ball
Z and I have to tell you it’s one of the best shows I ever see. This team was
created by KaiserNeko, Lanipator, and Takahata101, who also do voices for the
show alongside with MasakoX, hbi2k, Megami33, GanXingba, Antfish, Vegeta3986,
and the man who kicked off this abridging craze, LittleKuriboh. When I heard
Kaiser, Lani, and Taka were doing an iRiff I was like about time!!! These guys
are funny as hell and if you haven’t seen the Dragon Ball Z Abridged series, you’re
missing out big time. Plus it’s always fun to see funny people riff bad movies.
Anyway that's all I have to say this crap of a movie. I'm so pissed they called this a Dragon Ball Movie.

TETB Review: A Good Old Fashioned Orgy
Who wants to have A Good Old Fashioned Orgy? Well after seeing this movie I might be into the idea. If you never seen this flick the plot is, A group of 30-year-olds who have been friends since high school attempt to throw an end-of-summer orgy. Now this is kind of a brave plot line and a lot of people wouldn't touch this, but Directors/Writers Alex Gregory & Peter Huyck did. Plus this as a pretty good cast of actors that keep you interested in the story itself. This movie stars Jason Sudeikis(SNL, Horrible Bosses, & Hall Pass), Leslie Bibb(Zookeeper, Iron Man 1 & 2), Lake Bell( How to Make It In America, No Strings Attached), Michelle Borth( Hawaii Five-O 2010), Nick Kroll(The League), Tyler Labine( Tucker & Dale Vs Evil, Reaper, Rise of The Planet Of The Apes), Angela Sarafyan(The Good Guys), Lindsay Sloane(Weeds, Horrible Bosses), Martin Starr(Adventureland, Party Down, Knocked Up) with Will Forte(SNL, MacGruber,) and Lacy Punch(Bad Teacher, Take Me Home Tonight).
This movie had me going from the beginning to the end. At first you get to see what they get into in their everyday lives, like a really quick way to get to know someone you just met... or speed dating as they call it. After the opening credits are done it all starts off at a party which they call, "The White Trash Party". I'm not even making that up at all. There are people dressed in overalls and women with tops from the 80's people!! I thought this was fun to kind of look at and made me want to join the party.
So after drinking a few beers to get into the party mood, I continued to watch. So it turns out that the day after the party, Eric Keppler(Jason Sudeikis) father wants to sell the house where Eric and his friends party and vacation to every year seems like which put Eric in a bad place. I can understand how he feels about it, I mean its like losing a club house or having your father chop down the tree your club house is in.
So now Eric alongside his friend Mike McCrudden(Tyler Labine), decide that their last party should be an outstanding one, and party to end all parties!!! And I think you know where I'm going with this.... an orgy.... they want to have an orgy. I mean who wouldn't?!! Get a few friends over, make sure it’s all even guys and gals, get drunk on everything you have, start going at it!!! But this is not a porno, although it does have porno potential. I could definitely see them doing parody porn about this flick.
Anyway I don't want to go too much into it but the title alone should have you hooked, I mean first off you never see titles like this in a movie theater at all. I mean look at Zack and Miri Make a Porno, some people had issues with the word porno when that was coming out. So they had to do that just shorten it to Zack and Miri... thats it... Zak and Miri what??!! Another film they did that to is Cop Out. Now with Cop Out they had to change the title completely!! The original name they were going for was A Couple of Dicks. I loved that name and it made sense, but oh no.... they couldn't have the word dick out there for kids to see. You don't think that a kid gonna ask “Mommy what’s an Orgy"?
All and all though, this flick is a pretty good watch. The plot and idea is great, you get to see all these friends kind of go through changes, and plus you get to see stuff you would never see most people do at a party. Hell I didn't think I was going to see Tyler Labine's ass in this... I need more to drink.....
